Have any Hasidic Jews knocked on your door?
HippieChick58 comments on Dec 26, 2017:
I have always lived in small towns, military bases or in the "burbs", Hasidic Jews don't find us easily.
HippieChick58 replies on Dec 26, 2017:
I know... I used to find the Jewish people fascinating, I read lots about them and their history. Chaim Potok was one of my favorite authors. It was so unlike my quasi Christian Midwestern American middle class life. I read many stories of the Holocaust, and the pogroms. I have to admire their fortitude. Not all that long ago I read a book on the hidden Jewish contribution to American life, who knew Lane Bryant was Jewish?
Has anyone ever phoned their congress person or senator to voice their concerns about an issue?
HippieChick58 comments on Dec 26, 2017:
I have called, faxed, and emailed. I have attended town halls. I have handed out sheets of red and green construction paper prior to the town halls.I have attended a few marches.
HippieChick58 replies on Dec 26, 2017:
Well, my goal is to be more politically active, so yes. Did I make a difference, mixed bag. But I tried. I have been there and sometimes the results were what I wanted, sometimes not. But this is a marathon, not a sprint.
Can an atheist be a racist? What are your views on racism?
HippieChick58 comments on Dec 25, 2017:
Of course. Atheism and racism are separate issues. Being an atheist I don't believe in God. Being a racist is behaving in a manner that says to you people with skin color or ethnicity unlike your own are not equal to you and sub human. To me racism is the ultimate ignorance, whereas to be atheist is...

There will always be those who choose a path for reasons that might not seem obvious to others.I think being atheist/agnostic, or out of the 'normal" sphere shows some critical thinking skills that separate non believers from the rest. I got really tired of the "mysteries" answer.
What are you doing New Year's Eve?

I agree that no one is born racist. Racism is ignorance of ignoring the truth that race is made up by man to keep people separate. There is no functional reason to separate people into races, except for profit and control.
What’s something you know you do differently than most people?
HippieChick58 comments on Dec 24, 2017:
I am not a TV watcher. I cut the cable off during the Iowa primary when I looked up and saw Ted Cruz's face in my living room. I have no idea what is current or popular on TV right now. Same as movies. I don't read the local newspaper as it is a conservative rag. I also read lots of books. I dated a...

I like Christian music. Do you see a problem with that?
TommyMeador comments on Dec 24, 2017:
There was a song a few years ago, really hilarious. Walking around in ladies underwear. I don't remember if that was the title or just a line from the chorus. And I don't remember the tune it was sang to. --- I have a memory like a steel trap - that's been sitting out in the rain for 60 years.

Bob Rivers – Walking Around In Women's Underwear Lyrics "Lacey things, the wife is missing. Didn't ask, for her permission I'm wearing her clothes, Her silk panty hose. Walking around in women's underwear. In the store, there's a teddy. With little straps, like spagetti. It holds me so tight, Like handcuffs at night. Walking around in womens underwear In the office there's a guy named Melvin. He pretends that I am Murphy Brown. He'll say "Are you ready?" I'll say, "Woah man! Lets wait untill the wife is out of town." Later on, if you wanna, We can dress, like Madonna. Put on some eye shade, and join the parade. Walking around in women's underwear. Lacey things, missing. Didn't ask, permission. Wearing her clothes, silk panty hose. Walking around in women's underwear. Walking around in women's underwear. Walking around in women's underwear...... "
Do you like rituals, routines, and traditions?
MsOliver comments on Dec 24, 2017:
I do have routines. I make and drink coffee every morning before I even think about doing anything. I shower every morning, because that helps wake me up too. My life is a big series of habits and routines, but I would not classify them as rituals and I don't think they've existed long enough to ...
HippieChick58 replies on Dec 24, 2017:

Why should we have children ?
BookDeath comments on Dec 24, 2017:
I'm 56. I do not have children. I made the decision at very young age that I would NOT have children. I did so for several reasons. One was purely selfish: I simply did not want to be a parent. I did not I had the emotional wherewithal to devote to a child. A second reason was less; I felt that b/c ...
HippieChick58 replies on Dec 24, 2017:
Truly, if you didn't want to have children then not having children is the best possible choice for you. Children are demanding little despots until you get them trained and some never take to training, look at our current US orange dude in the white house.

For those of us who are single, do you enjoy your singleness?
HippieChick58 comments on Dec 21, 2017:
I think I am "resigned" to being single. I would like a companion at times, someone to hang with and help with living expenses, and the physical aspects. However, I like my solitary activities as well, I can spend hours daily reading, or sewing, or other stuff that can't be easily shared. I know I'd...

Meiliken comments on Dec 21, 2017:
Growing up, I learned to question everything. So I studied all of the religions throughout human history. Turns out, they were and are, all fantasies. No matter what, there will always be zealots. Insanity is part of the chaotic nature of humanity.

Does happiness really come from within?
HippieChick58 comments on Dec 19, 2017:
Happiness is a choice. You can choose to be happy in any circumstances, or choose to be unhappy. I always try to remember life could be so much worse.
HippieChick58 replies on Dec 20, 2017:
And I have depression and anxiety. I am terrified I am going to lose my job. However, no one knows because I always choose to present myself as happy. Or happy-ish. I 've been worse and I've been better, and I know I am better off than many. I've also been medicated and called them my happy pills. Happy pills messed up my decision making skills. So I battle the depression and anxiety unmedicated, and as much as I can I make a choice every minute that I could be worse off so I'm going to be happy. Some days it is harder than others, and I just hope I can hold on. But my kids are great, my bills are pretty much paid, and I have what I need. I will say YMMV, but this is me.
I had a good laugh just now.
HippieChick58 comments on Dec 19, 2017:

HippieChick58 replies on Dec 19, 2017:
I went to Zoosk because it was highly rated. So glad I never spent the money on it.

HippieChick58 comments on Dec 17, 2017:

What do you do to help the Environment?
HippieChick58 comments on Dec 14, 2017:
I also stopped buying books. I now use my library extensively. I also shop estate sales and repurpose things. I make lotions, potions, and lip balms, all organic.
HippieChick58 replies on Dec 14, 2017:
I make lotions with a variety of oils, and many of them are infused with herbs. Depending on how thick I want the lotion they may have beeswax in them. I've made beard balms for my sons in law who are all bearded. DIY Natural is the website that got me started making my own stuff and going more natural. I just ignore the religious thrust of the site.
