Isn't happiness just the absence of grief?
HippieChick58 comments on Mar 27, 2018:
You can be grieving and be happy. So no is the answer to your question. I once read that happiness was someone to love, something to do, and something to look forward to. It can also be said it is having meaning in your life. Meaningful for me is not going to be meaningful for others.

@atheist My mother died when she was 45 years old, I was 14. She never got to meet her grandchildren. When I had my babies I grieved anew for so many reasons, that they would never know my mother or her them, and I would not have her guidance to bring up my girls. I was happy to be a mom and have healthy babies, but at the same time missing and grieving the loss of my mom. Now tell me that I was not happy and grieving at the same time. Emotions can be complicated things.

Every state can set their own regulations, how many weeks and waiting period for example. Some states are very restrictive. And then there is malpractice and liability insurance for doctors, it is hard to remain in business. And then there are the protesters outside of clinics that allow it. So for the most part it is legal, obtainable is another story.

If it is a work day then I drink some herbal tea or some alcohol and hope I can get to sleep. On a weekend I might just get up and start the day. On work nights I try to avoid turning on anything electonic. I might read, or knit, or play with the kitties. Or masturbate. Or meditate. Self hypnosis. ...

@Katastrophe1969 it isn't very much different than meditation except for concentrating on a mantra. Use a two syllable word or phrase, first syllable on the outward breath, the second on the inward. I used Jah Weh as a xian, and now it just aggravates me but it is the sound of the breath going in and out. And just try to keep it as slow and as smooth as possible and concentrate on the breath, try to let go of other thoughts. It takes practice, but it does help your heart rate and brain waves slow down to where you can drift off. I need a better mantra. @FrayedBear It sits at a charging station when not in use. It is scheduled to run several times a week, or I can start it from where ever I am with my cell phone. If it runs out of battery while working it will go to the charging station to recharge, and then return to where it left off. Sometimes it will pick up a cat toy and get stopped and run out of battery if I don't get home to fix it. Then I carry it to the recharging station, and after charging will restart unless I tell it not to. It's pretty darn smart. Never falls down the stairs either.

Hiking at night alone, I jumped down a frozen waterfall and broke my leg at the ankle, 2 miles from home and crawled back, but that wasn't the painfull part. When my mom and dad were dating and getting married, my dad's youngest brother met my mom's youngest sister, and it was love at first sight. They said it was weeks before Keith could form a coherent sentence. They were married for over 60 years. Last time I saw Keith he had CRS very bad. (Can't remember shit, his words.) What he could remember and talked about frequently was how much he loved Vera, how she was his moon and stars, and he just wanted to love her. He couldn't understand how any man could hit a woman. As his dementia increased his granddaughter moved them into her house. He recognized Vera and had to be near her. His granddaughter he referred to as the girl in the kitchen. That is the epitome of love. He passed away a few weeks ago, still in love with Vera.
