The current youngest grand will be one on Sunday. And there is "a bun in the oven" for the summer. My kids grew up as Army brats, and rarely lived around family. They have all made a point of staying in the area, and I love being close to them and their babies. I love being Grammy.

@MsKathleen Oh yeah, we get snow. Usually not a great deal, but there have been times we've been inundated. Our schools close when there is a chance of "significant" snow especially during the heavy commute times. The snow/freeze cycle is why we don't have termites. I don't mind snow if I don't have to go anywhere, so I'm really happy to be WFH.

@TomMcGiverin My baseline is never, ever lie. Especially if it is something that can easily be exposed. If I find I've been lied to I'd never trust you again. You might try avoiding the question and see if that changes the outcomes, that is not telling a lie. I don't know if "hide" is the best word, just not bringing it to the forefront. When I was actively on dating sites, the issue was not so much whether there were kids connected, it was mostly political/religion. I won't hide that I'm liberal or non religious, and in this part of the cornbelt that's the death knell.
This should be the slogan of mature dating.

@TomMcGiverin OMG NO! Most women have experienced that their ex's kids are brats and very over protective of daddy, or afraid of daddy's bucks/attention being diverted. I know a woman married for 24 years (2nd marriage for both) her ex's daughter hated her for various imaginary reasons. This lady was sticking with her husband despite his several strokes and having to retire early. His daughter persuaded daddy that the wife wasn't supportive and he moved out just recently. With a ton of help, but he moved out. He's in a wheelchair. The lady was upset, and then she realized she didn't have to take care of him, deal with his reluctance to follow his treatment, and worry about him any longer, and it was a load off her mind. She is a stylish, very attractive woman, she will have no shortage of attention if she chooses to go back on the dating scene. I had a step mother when I was a teenager, my mom died when I was 14 and my dad remarried 6 months later. If that witch thought any of us were going to take care of her, she approached it the wrong way, and if Dad told her we'd be good he was sadly mistaken. She was a bitch from the get go, and alienated all of us. She is a huge part of the reason I joined the Army. She and Dad had a miserable marriage, they were married for nearly 25 years. All of this makes me very wary of men with kids, and most women I know are the same way.
This should be the slogan of mature dating.

@TomMcGiverin On paper that looks good. BUT, life isn't paper. Most women with kids are going to be involved with their kids, and if you don't want to be around her kids and possibly grands that could be an issue. I think my grands are adorable, and yes sometimes they're brats, but that is typical of small children. I'd be very hesitant to take someone not used to kids to meet my kids and grands. Kidlets aren't for everyone. There is so much more to life than money.
This should be the slogan of mature dating.

If they divorced you over your political views, something is wrong with them aside from their political views. Couples can have opposing political views and still have a strong marriage.. James Carville and Mary Matalin come to mind as well as Arnie and Maria. For me, I did not know my ex's political views when I married him, I wasn't even sure of my own at that time. Today we're about diametrically opposed on sooo very many issues. My divorce was not caused by politics, but so many other things that go hand in hand with opposing political and life views. My ex has become a Fox loving religious conservative follower, I'm surprised I stuck around as long as I did.

HippieChick58 replies on Dec 7, 2021:
Adam Daniel Kinzinger is an American politician serving as the U.S. Representative for Illinois's 16th congressional district. The district covers eastern Rockford, most of Rockford's suburbs, and a swath of exurban territory around Chicago. He is a member of the Republican Party. Adam Kinzinger was born on February 27, 1978, in Kankakee, Illinois, the son of Betty Jo, an elementary school teacher, and Rus Kinzinger, a CEO of faith-based organizations. After spending part of his youth in Jacksonville, Florida, he was primarily raised in Bloomington, Illinois. He graduated from Normal Community West High School in 1996[7] and earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Illinois State University in 2000.[8] In 1998, while a student at Illinois State, Kinzinger ran for election as a county board member in McLean County. He won, at age 20, and was one of the youngest serving county board members in McLean County history,[9][10] defeating an incumbent county board member. Kinzinger remained on the board until his resignation in 2003.[11] Kinzinger worked as an intern for former U.S. Senator Peter Fitzgerald shortly after his graduation from Illinois State, as part of a program offered there.[12] I don't find any connection to Nebraska for him, thank dawg. We've got enough wackos here.

@barjoe I have stuck with Toyota dealer because of the perks. They make it easy for me to get my car in and out around my work schedules. I worked some weird schedules for a few years. Current job will likely stay largely WFH and 8 to 5, so I won't need as much flexibility, and I hope to DAWG I stay in this job until I can retire! I will look around for a non dealer repair when the time comes. Thanks for taking the time to send me all the good advice. My next car may well be a Toyota, I'm very pleased with mine. But I'm hoping to keep it for at least another year, or until the current car crisis resolves. I service auto loans in my jobs, and the numbers of people who have arranged to buy a car to have it sold to someone else is staggering. I hear from about one person a day, and there are over 150 of us in the same job who hear the same stories. It is crazy out there.

@barjoe The theory being I might NEED the spare, though in 15 years I've never had to put the spare on. It does have a sensor in it, and if that sensor is not working the light comes on. The dealer is convenient, and ex always took our cars there. Money was not a concern for him/his family. They are convenient, the waiting areas are clean and comfortable, and I'm kinda intimidated about finding a new auto service place. I did decide that next car I will find a cheaper place to get the cars fixed. And my neighborhood FB group is a joke. I'm in a small lower priced neighborhood. The surrounding neighborhoods are houses about double the cost of mine. Yeah, I don't talk to those people. My street had all lives matter signs in the yards. The next street over had blue lives matter and trump signs. There's way too many Karens and Billy Bobs on the neighborhood group. I am a liberal atheist in a sea of OMG I don't know what those people are thinking.

@barjoe By the time it was all done, replacing those sensors was about $250 per tire, and I have the spare on the rear. Thankfully that happened after I started current job and had steady income. I plan to drive Elmo for at least another year, maybe longer. I like being up a bit higher, it is easy for me to get in and out of, it's paid for, and I'm used to it.

Eventually I will get a smaller, more fuel efficient car, but for now, I really love that RAV. His name is Elmo.

I have come to the conclusion that I may last longer than the Rav, or the Rav will become too expensive to keep roadworthy, and then I may have to replace it. For now, I'm WFH, my mileage is way down and I'm saving where I can for that future car and retirement.

He was almost frothing at the mouth to get rid of the last minivan when we got the Rav. I like NOT having a car payment. I know I have to get a newer car one day, but I'm putting it off as long as I can.

HippieChick58 replies on Nov 1, 2021:
How would you or a cop "know" if they have no insurance? What behavior does the driver exhibit? The article does not mention drunk driving, but there are behaviors that drivers show when they are drunk, that I think would warrant a stop. Too many times drivers have been stopped for BWD (Black While Driving) and it ends up in a fatality. If they are not exhibiting any other potentially hazardous behavior then they should not be stopped. I read of a white lady that had a Standard Poodle that was black and used to ride in the front seat. She would frequently get stopped when the dog was a passenger. She never got stopped when she was alone. Go figure.

January 13, 2021 My newest and smallest grandchild. She arrived 5 weeks early and is now 2.5 weeks old and is less than 7 pounds. I've never held such a small baby before. She is quite perfect and very amazing. I love being a Grammy.
