It's not over: COVID-19 cases are on the rise again in US
Trajan61 comments on Apr 16, 2022:
I don’t like mask and haven’t been wearing one unless required but I am fully vaccinated with 4 Covid shots counting the boosters. They must be working as I’ve never had Covid.

@Trajan61 Yes, lip reading would definitely not work with masks. I am hearing impaired and wear hearing aids. Lip reading would help in so many instances, especially in noisy crowds.

It may also be luck, you just haven't encountered anyone contagious. I have gone out far less than I used to, not that I was ever a social butterfly. I have also been working mostly from home for the past 2ish years. I will continue to take precautions because I'm no longer a spring chicken, don't remember if I ever really was, and I'm not willing to take that risk. If it is in your comfort zone to go without a mask, I wish you well. I don't trust my fellow citizens that much, I am fully vaccinated but I'm still going to mask up.

I continue to wear masks when I'm out and about. Next week I start two weeks of training in person at work. I have been waiting for this training for several months, and I just don't want to wait any longer. Previous training was done remote via Teams. (There is a raise that comes with the training, and it was supposed to have been done 5 months ago.) I am going to do it, just slightly under duress, I'd much rather not be in person. I will be vocal if there is not enough social distancing. The offices have been closed at least three times in the past year when someone has tested positive for Covid. I have a new grandbaby due in 9 weeks. I'd like to be around to see her and the rest of the grands grow up, so I'm not happy about putting myself at risk in any way. (OK, except driving, in a previous life I must have been a race car driver.) But WFH I don't have to drive :) I have a good supply of masks and no I won't take it off except to eat, and if necessary I will eat my lunch in my car.

Is It Ethical To Use Amazon? | Current Affairs
Beowulfsfriend comments on Apr 14, 2022:
I often avoid using Amazon. I do use it, from time-to-time. Sometimes time, availability, and, honestly, cost pushes me toward them. Unlike Walmart and Home Depot, which I totally avoid, there isn't always a good alternative.
HippieChick58 replies on Apr 14, 2022:
I also avoid Walmart and Home Depot. When I started WFH I needed a type of power strip and I needed it immediately or sooner. I hit two Targets first and didn't find it, so decided as last resort I'd try WM. I found it at WM. So the last time I was in a WM was August 2020. I have no plans to go again unless hell freezes over.

Each month I make a several hundred dollar payment to pay that off. NOTHING else will go on that card until the BT is paid off in July or August. I've learned more about finance in the past 10 months than I've ever known in my life. When I left my daddy's home women could not get credit cards in their own name, and my parents never had a CC. @TomMcGiverin When I worked night shifts (8ish years ago), I had a landline. There was an extension in the bedroom, and the kids knew that if it was important to leave a message because I'd hear the message and usually it would wake me up. I got rid of the landline when I got rid of the cable during the Republican primaries 2015(?)when I saw Ted Cruz on my TV too often during the Iowa primary. Since then I have cell only, and it is almost always on me, and wearing hearing aids they're connected to the phone by Bluetooth and I am almost totally hands free. I can answer the phone by touching the hearing aid. Also, I hear my GPS through the hearing aids, and I use GPS quite frequently for a variety of reasons. I also have my Kindle on my phone, and mobile apps for my bank, CCs, library, shopping list, etc. My whole life is on my phone. I have a powerful computer in my pocket and it still just amazes me. I don't have Ag.com on my phone, I like full size keyboard for composing more than just a short answer. We all make our choices in life. Your choice suits you and mine suits me. Your answer sound a bit defensive and hostile and I don't even want to go down that rabbit hole. Yes, I want to be available to my kids when they need me. Basic biology, when a baby girl forms inside her mother's womb every egg that will become the next generation is formed in her body. Yes, I'm available when my kids need me, and they're available when I need them. We do stuff like that, we're family, we care.

@HippieChick58 Beautiful! Proud of you. This quilt is a treasure, a family heirloom. What is a long-arm shop?
HippieChick58 replies on Feb 13, 2022:
Thank you! A long arm machine is like a sewing machine that is computer guided and has an arm that stretches over the surface to be quilted, so you can imagine some of them have a very large stitching area, the one in the picture is quite small. The shop I usually use can handle quilts up to 140 inches across. It stitches through the quilt top, batting, and backing. It is much faster than hand quilting. I am patient, but I don't have that much patience to do it by hand. When the quilting is done I will bind the edges and then give it a quick wash. The washing relaxes the fabric, washes out the sizing, and allows the quilting to puff up a bit. Then it is ready for the new baby.

A few years ago (or more than a few) I was married. My now ex was/is addicted to Fox News, and I couldn't stand Fox News, they just made me agitated and upset. It took me a divorce, distance, and some deprogramming to figure out why. I tend to work on projects while the TV is on, like crochet or needlework, so I'm not fully focused on what they are saying, but the message seeps into your system. I find their message wholly repugnant. Every news source has a message that they are peddling, a target audience that they want to pander to. Yes, EVERY news source will have a slant to left, right, or middle. My now adult children want to take a "family" vacation the summer of 2023, stay in a house on the Great Lakes for a week. All the kids, all the partners, all the grands, and the creators of this cluster; the ex and I. I have set down a couple of cast in concrete stipulations. One being NO FOX NEWS. The kids and partners are on board with that 110%. Haven't heard what the ex thinks of this, and I don't care.

Jan 2019. Quilt for 2 year old granddaughter, just learning her colors. Her mama wanted it to be a rainbow quilt.

January 13, 2021 My newest and smallest grandchild. She arrived 5 weeks early and is now 2.5 weeks old and is less than 7 pounds. I've never held such a small baby before. She is quite perfect and very amazing. I love being a Grammy.
