The office never was my social life. My experience is that if you aren't up on current culture you don't have anything to talk with anyone about. I don't watch TV, I don't read celebrity rags. I don't care about current hot groups movies, TV, or the Kardashians, etc. So I was just there to do my job and leave as soon as I could. I did not make coffee, ever. I told them I don't drink it, so I don't have any idea of what it should taste like. If I had to make it, I'd either make it too strong or too weak, Yes, most offices I have been in have had their cliques, and mean girls. I loved WFH, no commute, and no office gossip. I am hoping my next job will be WFH as much as possible.

It was not a long track, but I'd reason I could go 5 more minutes or 5 more laps, and then 5 more, etc. I was looking back to stats from when I belonged to that gym, I got my 10,000 steps most days.

@LiterateHiker I have a sewing room, so when I'm done for the time being I just have to chase cats out and close the door. It is rare that I'm not sewing daily. I have two quilts in progress right now, I don't usually do that. After the second quilt is done I don't have any plans for another large project for a while. That can change on a dime. When you spoke of directional sewing I nodded. When I do the quilting on smaller projects I start from the center and then sew outwards, and on the next row I sew inwards. It keeps things from distorting.

@azzow2 I have a compost container and a worm box. I love the worm castings, so easy to do and fairly fast. Every year I add compost and worm castings to my garden. I also add the worm castings to my houseplants. I love the no waste of both the methods. Almost all my fruit/veggie scraps get put to use. Citrus doesn't go in either, but I add the citrus to vinegar and let sit until I need it, the drained liquid is a great cleanser when sprayed onto baking soda. The left over peels go down the garbage disposal where they clean and deodorize the drains in that process. I wouldn't be able to do the lasagna garden. It looks like I'd have to start a new garden, and I have no time, space, or desire to do that at this point.

Interesting. Here's a question for you. Did they have fascist tendencies before they became cops, or did the process of becoming a cop make them fascist. I ask because I have a very sweet former son in law who became a cop. One of my kids (not the one that was married to him) still keeps in touch with him on occasion. I have trouble imagining him as a fascist cop, but it's been quite a few years since I have seen him. Also, there are many non white cops, do they also become fascist?

@JackPedigo I met my ex when we were both active duty Army. We married while we were both assigned in Germany, and then I got out of the service. He was an officer, I was enlisted. In 1993 my ex was assigned to Ft. Lewis for his last active duty assignment. He had been passed over for promotion to LTC 3 times so he was done. We thought we'd stay in WA forever. We lived in Tacoma for a year, he retired and found a job with a software company in Redmond. We moved to Bothell for less than a year, and found our "forever" home between Snohomish and Everett. I think the neighborhood was called Gold Creek. We were far from all family and things were not going well in our marriage, we moved to Kansas City in 1999. He was hired for the Y2K programming crisis avoidance at Sprint. In 2005 Sprint outsourced their IT department, and he found a job in Omaha. I am a Nebraska native and have family not terribly far away so for me it was not a bad move, except I never expected to be back in Nebraska. We split in 2010. All the kids have settled in the greater Omaha area.

@JackPedigo YES, excellent. I regret leaving Washington State so much of the time. I'm closer to my family out here, but this is such as bassackwards state. I have one child who has chosen not to have children, and her partner is in total agreement with that. She is the favorite auntie, but damn glad to send them home to their parents. Her dad, the conservative arse that he is, has diminished her portion of the inheritance she will get from him. He is "disappointed" in her life choices. She is also the one that provides him with the most support, has delivered nearly all of his groceries during the pandemic and taken him to most of his medical appointments. If she had small children she wouldn't have been able to give him the care he needed. She has a child, it's him. Of course he doesn't see it that way. A large part of the reason she doesn't want kids is all that you mentioned and just not wanting to deal with the politics of pregnancy.

That said, as a civilian and a parent I did not want weapons in my home. I have not handled any firearms in over 30 years. I think anyone should be allowed to privately own weapons as long as 1: they are insured with liability insurance. 2: They have had training, they are licensed and are bonded. 3: The weapons and ammunition are stored in a locked container. 4: The weapons also have trigger locks. 5: The weapons are registered with state and local authorities. For the most part I want weapons treated like vehicles. Get insurance involved, you will see the rash of crimes with weapons decrease in short order.
