I was in a fabric store, needed to have my selection cut from the bolt. Took it to the cutting table, the employee had her mask below her nose. I asked her to fix it, and she did. I feel sorry for her having to wear the mask all day. It also looked like the mask did not fit well. She works in a fabric store, the mask if fabric, they could have fixed that with supplies literally on hand. No excuse at all.

@Ohub My youngest and her husband are carpenters. She said they don't really "social distance" at work, it usually isn't possible, though they are often masked because of the dust and crap in the air. I am thankful to not have anyone in a school setting.

@RavenCT My girls have both been spayed, all my cats have been spayed or neutered. No babies for me, not since Okinawa when I woke up to my kitty giving birth in my closet and I had to grab my uniform and run. By the time I got home all was cleaned up and I had six cats instead of one. She was a good mama. But I had six kitties to find new homes for before I was transferred. But I digress. I am not in a position to make unnecessary purchases right now, so I will continue with scooping by hand, and put a litter robot on my christmas/birthday/holiday gift list. Maybe one of my kids will gift me one.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — With an order from their governor now in effect, everybody in New Mexico has to wear a mask in public. But one pet store worker in Albuquerque said enforcing that order led to him being threatened by a customer with a gun. Cody Westfall said a man who came into the store Thursday was not wearing a mask, but he was wearing a gun on his hip. “I asked ‘do you happen to have a mask on you?’ He said ‘no’ kind of dismissively,” Westfall said. Here’s what he said happened next. “At that point he stopped and kind of turned around to me and asked, you know, ‘are you going to make me wear a mask?’ To which point I mentioned that not only is it a personal preference for our store but as of yesterday it is now government mandated,” Westfall said. Westfall said that's when the man gestured to the gun on his hip. “He looked down and then looked back up and said ‘are you sure you're going to make me wear a mask?’” Westfall said. Westfall said when he mentioned the mask rule again, the man gestured to his gun again and said ‘are you really going to make me wear a mask?’” Westfall said. “When he did it the second time when I mentioned it, I was like oh, this is where I know he's threatening me,” Westfall said. Westfall said the man left the store and that's when he called police. The Albuquerque Police Department report said they identified the man and he lives in Rio Rancho. It goes on to say an off-duty officer from nearby Rio Rancho did make contact with the man, but no report was filed. Rio Rancho police confirmed the officer did not file a report and that it was not uncommon for officers from different departments to make house calls like that. Charges have not been filed in the case. Albuquerque police said their report was forwarded to a specialized unit for further investigation. Westfall said he wants criminal charges filed, not just because he felt threatened, but because he feels people who refuse to wear a mask and take it to that level are a threat to everyone.

A federal judge has ordered the shutdown of the Dakota Access Pipeline while a lengthy environmental review is conducted of the project opposed by environmentalists and American Indian tribes. The move was requested earlier by the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and three other Sioux tribes in the Dakotas who fear environmental harm from the pipeline and sued over the project four years ago. North Dakota officials have said such a move would have “significant disruptive consequences” for the state, whose oil patch has been hit hard in recent months by falling demand for crude amid the coronavirus pandemic. The $3.8 billion pipeline built by developer Energy Transfer has been moving North Dakota oil to a shipping point in Illinois for three years. But U.S. District Judge James Boasberg, who is overseeing the lawsuit, in March ordered the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to complete a full Environmental Impact Statement. The question of whether the pipeline would be shut down in the meantime has lingered since. An EIS is a much more stringent review than the Environmental Assessment the Corps completed earlier. Such a study is expected to take 13 months, Boasberg wrote in the ruling he issued Monday. After arguments by both sides and other interested parties, Boasberg revoked a key Corps permit for the pipeline and ordered that "Dakota Access shall shut down the pipeline and empty it of oil by August 5, 2020." The pipeline has been carrying as much as 570,000 barrels of oil out of the Bakken each day -- about 40% of the state's daily production before the pandemic hit. Boasberg acknowledged that his order "will cause significant disruption to DAPL, the North Dakota oil industry, and potentially other states." But he also said "the Corps has not been able to substantiate its decision to publish only an EA and not an EIS." "Given the seriousness of the Corps' ... error, the impossibility of a simple fix, the fact that Dakota Access did assume much of its economic risk knowingly, and the potential harm each day the pipeline operates, the Court is forced to conclude that the flow of oil must cease," Boasberg wrote. The judge in 2017 ordered the Corps to revisit several issues pertaining to the easement it granted the pipeline, but he allowed the pipeline to continue operating. The Corps completed the work in August 2018, leading to more legal wrangling when the tribes maintained the additional study was flawed. The company over the years has maintained that the pipeline is safe, a contention backed by the Corps. The lawsuit has lingered since July 2016. The tribes fear a pipeline spill into the Missouri River -- which the line crosses beneath just to the north of the Standing Rock Reservation --...

@MsDemeanour I don't think the cop cared. They have such a mindset of controlling the cattle that they don't even regard minorities as human in the very worst of situations, which I think this was. And yes, all cops need more training. They need deescalation training. They're a bunch of big boys with guns and a god complex. This is happening way too often for it to be dismissed lightly, or again. There is a serious dysfunction in our police force that needs to be addressed now. Cops should not need to be militarized.

@FearlessFly Thank you! I was sprinkling the plants with Cayenne and chili peppers, it seemed to help, but I can't always get out right after a rain to replace it. The plant in the pot on the deck has not been touched, so I think I know what I am doing next year, and it is more convenient to the kitchen. I was considering some type of fencing, but I'm not sure I want to go to that expense.

Interesting analogy. Right now I have a bunny in my back yard that I think is sitting on her nest. I have very mixed feelings, she has been decimating my garden for weeks. I don't need more bunnies, and I do want the basil plants I am trying to grow. The cilantro was eaten to the dirt, was was the chamomile. Now, if mama bunny is still there on Friday, do I cancel my lawn guys? I am sure that ride on mower will just suck those babies up. What to do...

@azzow2 Good luck with that. My kids are adventurous cooks and eaters now, but there were times when I would have drowned them if I had the chance. I remember some scenes in restaurants... and that child has decided never to have children of her own... I guess I threatened her with "wait til you have your own kids" a few too many times.

Life is short, if they are not adding to the quality of life and are in fact diminishing it, block away. January of 2019 I removed all my blocks, just to see what would happen. Before July everyone was blocked again, some long before that. Life is just too darn short to put up with nasty folks.

@Spudgun I had a cat that passed in November 2016. She was the Millennium Kitten, or Miss Millie, born in 2000. She was so people bonded she slept with me almost every night, cuddled closely. If I rolled over I took her with me. She had been part of an abandoned litter that was bottle fed by a family with other cats, dogs, kids, and assorted other humans. She thought all good things came from people. She thought our golden was her toy, he wasn't so sure, but he tolerated her. She went blind in old age, but still kept me company all the time. She was and forever will be my heart cat.

Bon appetit or as my son use to say bony appetit in this case it might be more like ectoskeleton ...

@azzow2 I tried green beans one year, apparently there is a fungus that attacks the beans in this area, mine just did not flourish. I remember my dad growing green beans when we were kids, and snapping the beans for dinner, talk about fresh. I usually buy frozen green beans, and then only take out as much as I need. Living alone I don't want to cook the whole package at once.

No one is saying that George Floyd was a saint. He was sentenced to death by a cop for trying to pass a counterfeit bill. Regardless of what was in his past that cop had no business being judge and jury. Floyd did not receive due process. He did not resist arrest, he was quietly waiting for the cops. That cop brutally executed him as his partners stood by watching. This is not right, it is not justice.

Others have suggested that you see a counselor, they do telemed now, you don't even have to go to the office. Some places offer free or low cost counseling. I know in Nebraska that the Methodist Health System does have free/low cost counseling, please check into resources in your area. I wish you peace.

If left unattended a two year old would surely eat something poisonous and die in short order. And then there is the wander away and get lost or hit by a car. Yes, he has mobility, but no sense yet. A 2 year old bear is full grown and has means of protecting itself. A two year old child is totally vulnerable. Not a good analogy at all.

@WilliamFleming I am very impressed with my former creampuff of a daughter that she is doing quite well as a carpenter. Her husband just became a journeyman, she is working towards that title. My oldest daughter has a degree in Microbiology, and now she works as a programmer. The degree shows you have the intelligence and determination to stick with a program to get the degree. 2nd daughter has a degree in history and works in data management. It is not uncommon. Their dad had a degree in zoology, joined the Army, worked in MI and after the Army was a programmer.

@WilliamFleming He went to college, he just didn't hang around for the degree. And he was able to use his talents to become a multimillionaire. Bill is definitely the exception to the rules. Working class would be more of the Target cashiers, cafeteria workers, carpenters, etc. College often changes your perspective if not your ability to earn a higher income. It just is. And to forestall a potential argument, not everyone is cut out for college. Two of my daughters have college degrees, #3 dropped out of college and is now a carpenter.
