I think abrogation comes from 'from prayer'. If so, I can't help thinking it is prayers to get help with figuring things out that are already written. That would give a very similar meaning to progressive revelation because things are revealed that are in need of changing.

brentan comments on Feb 5, 2019:
The apostle Paul made the point about the civil law being for those who were inclined to break the law and had little to do with good people. We also know that the law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers - I Timothy 1:9. Sadly, then, he goes on to have another bash at homosexuals. I'm including this Bible verse just to take the idea of the two types of people back a couple of millenia and also to say that these people living by another law that motivated instead of frightened were in a sense outside the civil law. I think we need a replacement for the religious motivator that early Christians had.

I felt it as a huge loss. After all, it's the loss of everlasting life. I'm comforted a little by the new animist thinkers who feel consciousness is not dependent on the brain and continues after death. How that consciousness might fit into universal consciousness is still unknown, I think. I would like to read any speculations about it. I get a lot of my thoughts about this from Rupert Sheldrake.

In my case, my parents, especially my mother, did so much to damage their children. I didn’t feel grief when they died. I might have if I had held out any hope of closure. I think I had a philosophical attitude when they died. Later in life, I had cause to look into autism and found it describing me very well. I think it’s because I’m more analytical while other people bring feelings into the situation more than I do. One of the things I see expressed more often on social media is the encouragement to be kind to yourself. I think it’s a great idea.

Then she went softly to him and drove the peg into his temple until it went down into the ground while he was lying fast asleep from weariness. So he died. - Judges 4.
