Something I read in my senior year is HS made me re-direct my major from medical science to Environmental science and demography - the study of populations and how their changes affect behavior. I honestly think it's clear...the dumbing down of the world....the persistence of the religulous....is directly related to the incredibly persistent growth of human populations. John B. Calhoun said; "As the population of any social animal...from ants, to rats, to humans...continues to grow, their behaviors change. Why are you using a CPAP? Perhaps you've been through a good diagnosis...perhaps it's your decision. Either way....I don't look at them as a wise tool unless you're close to "the end"... I recommend two alternatives to strapping a machine on to your face; 1. Get a good...or better....pillow. If you don't have a down pillow, please try it. If you're allergic to feathers or against animal products, there's many artificial fiber substitutes that make a pillow great, not just good 2. Tuck the pillow under your chin to keep your mouth closed. Yes, this does require sleeping on your side. But It's a good alternative to snoring, or hyper-dry-mouth. 3. Keep nasal spray handy. Don't use it regularly; you can build a tolerance to it. I use it every 2nd or third night.
Two teaspoons of vinegar before each meal will help you lose weight.
Robecology comments on Nov 20, 2019:
I've tried it. Vinegar straight is just nasty. Even in salad dressings it's a bit of a task to swallow. Better strategy; Watch your caloric intake. Learn to tolerate hunger. There is no evidence of any animal - other than man - having digestive system cancer; and that's accredited to the "hunger" factor. Ed...you've lost over 100 pounds. Honestly; did you use vinegar? I don't think so. You just tolerated hunger.

NOT hungry, so STOP thinking about food!! Easier said than done.
Robecology comments on Nov 19, 2019:
I have good diet days when I just tolerate hunger. Let the pangs creep in. Go to bed hungry. It's not life threatening....in fact science indicates that fasting can be good for you. Sim people live longer. Remember; our eating habits are just that - habits. And these habits are far stronger than drug addictions. They were started when we got "emotional' before we could walk and talk. But don't be angry with your parents. I'm sure you've heard the condescending "spoiling" adjective thrown at you too often...we pretend it's good to "spoil" our kids and give in to their needs (that we created for them as toddlers). I'm sickened by my son and daughter-in-law's constant push to have my 3 year old grandson eat- and eat somemore. He's a nibler...but they both push "finish your meal" attitudes...not realizing that they're setting up life-time bad habits. So #1. Tolerate hunger. Stop trying to "trick" yourself....deal with hunger if you are at all serious about losing weight. #2. Know that you're fighting a profound addiction started before you could walk and talk. #3. Take baby steps. Document. Record your weight. Measure what you eat.

Let him call and chat with you....feel it out. Get to know him better by phone/text/email 2. Go with your intuition. Block his texts and calls...respect the red flag. If you go with #1...set your boundaries more clearly. Make sure he respects you enough to respond accurately to your requests. More than a "lovely" overview (I get it....you're a romantic) It's an important one. I volunteer for a botanical garden....and it's a common unawareness... that many make about plants...that they too, went through an evolution...only many of the "dinosaurs" of the plant world...the Cycads, the Ferns, the Bromeliads, the palm trees, etc....are still on earth...and still abundant in some regions. True; the "tree-fern" that was extensive 300-500 million years ago (and made most of our coal) is rare today...but it does still exist. I didn't hear this emphasized...so allow me; 99% of our Oxygen was NOT given to us by the Plants....it was the Pre-plants...the photosynthetic single celled organisms...that changed the sea from iron-green to blue (as Oxygen built up and then iron oxides settled to the bottom) and that built up our oxygen enough so that Ozone - 03 - the protective layer 10--15 miles up - that allowed plant and animal life on land to evolve. Don't thank a tree....thank a phytoplankton. This is planet ocean, not planet earth Good video. Thanks!

I'm so sad that he let his photograph of him trying pot on the air leak out. The man is a genius. Test drive a Tesla...and you'll get it. Then discover his SpaceX recyclable rockets. Then explore his solar shingles. The man is a major player for the salvation of humanity....so sad that this "joke" keeps getting aired. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0-pfzKbh2k

There's a rash of fruit-based brews out there...from Raspberry, to Coconut, to Mango...and it's working. Microbreweries are springing up all over the place with tasty beers that have a unique flavor. They are still relatively bitter (I found that a Mango brew needed a touch of sugar or honey - but that's me)...and still brewed with hops and malt...and the low alcohol gives you a mild buzz, as well.

The only fault I find with your comment is "the NEW front line of the anti-abortion movement. The Religulous value male dominance. They value a man deciding when a family should start. They value a woman keeping a secondary, almost slave-like roll in a relationship. This has been their tradition for centuries. Most religious families have children when the father decides the time is right...in other words...when he has "raped" his mate....and captured her... gotten her to "the alter"....this is the religious way of family creation.

“Bribery, first of all, as the founders understood bribery, it was not as we understand it in law today. It was much broader,” Schiff said. “It connoted the breach of the public trust in a way where you’re offering official acts for some personal or political reason, not in the nation’s interest.” To prove bribery, Schiff said, you have to show that the president was “soliciting something of value,” which Schiff thinks multiple witnesses before his committee have testified to in private.

Too many are actually wiiling to pay higher prices for non-dairy milk. The demand for Soy, or almond, or non-dairy milk products has clearly risen. I noticed the price of cows milk dropping...and dropping. I see why they've filed for bankruptcy. Sad.

Good description of intimacy. I concur...it's not just physical, or mental, or spiritual (I like how you define it...in a non-religious manner). And dammit...it's so rare, so hard to achieve.
Why is it that Russian oligarchs are called out as such, but we don't call out US oligarchs?
Robecology comments on Nov 13, 2019:
I empathize with Trump and others' attempts to befriend Russia. We need to stop the hypocrisy of hating them and not hating our leaders who do the same greedy, throat-cutting things. It's almost like Trump sees the good in the evil leaders...which can be a good thing.

BINGO! It's the main root. It's the trunk of the tree for our occupation on earth...and it's growing - births minus deaths - at 158 more per minute. 227,000 per day. A million every 4.5 days. 83 million more - births than deaths...per year. ...and that rate's been slowing since it peaked in the 1980's. But at this slow rate decline, we won't reach ZPG until the end of this century; when we're likely to peak at between10 and 11 billion. More people = fewer resources per person = more competition for less and less. And more people need more energy; and the fossil fuel consortium is blind to climate change....so they will keep pushing their product. ....and the sad part is we know what family planning is. We just don't apply it. Please; read and fact check me; this is a great site with a sense of humor (kisses per second, cokes per second, etc) check it out. http://www.poodwaddle.com/worldclock/

It depends on how you define "collective consciousness". I read a paper in my senior year in HS ('63) that pointed out that any social animal..from ants, to rats, to humans - become irritated and irrational if they get too crowded. It's considered a biological response; but it affects the "collective consciiosness" in that we get protective, withdrawn, introspective and ....well...crazy...if it gets too crowded. ...and right now our world population is growing at 158 more births, than deaths, per minute. Here's my stats check page...http://www.poodwaddle.com/worldclock/ And here's the article I read in '63 that changed my career direction; https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1501789/pdf/califmed00143-0080.pdf

I tried the veggie whopper. Amazingly good. But double the cost of a real meat burger. The "meat" is a bit mushy, a bit bland...no strong "beefy" mouth feel nor flavor....but a decent meat/high protein/vegan substitute. The price is $7.99 (compared to half that for real beef) so as usual,, vegan/veggie folk will have to pay a premium to avoid meat....but kudos to Burger King for getting nationals production of a meat substitute off the ground. I've substantially reduced my beef/pork/lamb intake...and I know that 10-20% of the animal production for meat is adding methane to the environment - which is 20X more potent than CO2...so the more we boycott meat eating the better for our own personal health as well as our environment's

I think he got arrested for trying to run against Putin? After Kasparov retired, he devoted his time to politics and writing. He formed the United Civil Front movement, and joined as a member of The Other Russia, a coalition opposing the administration and policies of Vladimir Putin. In 2008, he announced an intention to run as a candidate in that year's Russian presidential race, but failure to find a sufficiently large rental space to assemble the number of supporters that is legally required to endorse such a candidacy led him to withdraw. Kasparov blamed "official obstruction" for the lack of available space. Although he is widely regarded in the West as a symbol of opposition to Putin, he was barred from the presidential ballot, as the political climate in Russia makes it difficult for opposition candidates to organize. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garry_Kasparov

Many years ago i dated a guy who defined intimacy as having sex.
Robecology comments on Nov 10, 2019:
Interesting that his definition - "many years ago"...stayed on your mind. So it's obviously hard to get his side of the story as well. Was his definition the basis of a defining moment? Maybe you "weren't ready" and this question you posed prompted a break-up? Too many loose ends to generalize that it's a "guy" thing.
