@Heidi68 We get a lot of the white pelicans here, the brown ones are still recovering from DDT and Huricane Audry. They have made quite a comeback.

We had many more assets on the west coast to defend and did lose several Alaskan islands to the Japanese.

glennlab replies on Oct 16, 2021:
@BD66 way to just google shit and not read it, there is not one true socialist or capitalist government in the world. Just like your horse paste bul;lshit, you don't understand it so you just regugitate information whether it is true or not. Those countries by and large are communist, or totalitarian while they may show some characteristics of a socialist society, they are not a pure socialist society since all allow some entranenurship, allow private investment or have other free markets going on.

@BD66 The Nazis were fascist, never claimed to be anything else, Read "The rise and fall of the third Reicht" or any high school history book. I said before that there is not now nor has there ever been a true socialist nation. Pure socialism stops working once groups get over about 50. I also said that I do not agree with your definition, and youi have shown that you cannot identify any true socialist. I stand by my comparrison of republican picking trump being comparable to the people at Gentec continuing to open new dino parks.

@BD66 The dictionary definition is irrelevant, since no pure system of any type exists. Every system will have characteristics of several different philosophies. can you show of even one instance in history of a purely socalist or any pure economic system. They are all hybidized

glennlab replies on Oct 16, 2021:
@BD66 I don't accept definitions from wiki, from Webster :: any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods Far more common are systems of social democracy, now often referred to as democratic socialism, in which extensive state regulation, with limited state ownership, has been employed by democratically elected governments (as in Sweden and Denmark) in the belief that it produces a fair distribution of income without impairing economic growth. As I said it would take hours to just define our terms, since I'm sure that you incorrectly assume you are a capitalist

glennlab replies on Oct 16, 2021:
@BD66 Denmark, Sweeden, Norway, and Germany are all socialist democracies. The failure of socialism is normally greed. Socialism is an economic system, not a political system. The "love your neighbor" dates back to at least 400 BCE (first written recording in Judeic texts), The mis quote of "the love of money is the root of all evil" dates back to ancient times and is seen in all the religions, and frankly the heaven one, no heaven, so don't really care about that one. Socialism didn't "just" spring up, rather it evolved in ALL societies from the beginnin of our evolution dating back at least 3 million years. It would take hours to get you up to date on the just the definitions so that we could have honest discussion. My major was accounting with a minor in economics.

You are never going to be able change their minds or be able to present any set of facts that influence them.I typically shun them, I respect their right to show themselves a fool. Nothing says you have to engage on every subject. I have several friends that I never discuss politics of any type with. We have other shared interests that make the relationship worthwhile. I have others that I will not discuss religion with, and still others that I will not discuss sexuality with. Respect has to do with knowing boundries and not crossing them. Once they have been crossed, what you do is up to you. They way I would deal with your Nazi/racist example is ignore it, they are looking for confrontation, not dialogue. They are far from trying to engage in social intercourse. The way I dealt with Arayan Nations people in Idaho when I met them in a bar, was to say I didn't believe in their ideas, then refuse to get drug into a conversation.

I hope they plead the 5th, the few that do give it up will get off while those that plead the 5th nay have a long visit with the jailer.
glennlab replies on Oct 10, 2021:
@Redheadedgammy No, what happens in a congressional hearing is that when you plead the 5th, the congressmember then reads into the record what they expect your answer to have been, then asks if that is correct. So the entire investigative results end up in the record without confirmation by that individual. A second outcome could be that they grant immunity ala Oliver North, then either they testify or or imprisoned until they do for up to 18 months. They normally reserve immunity for lower level players. In a trial court, if you plead the 5th questioning is over unless they grant immunity. Once they grant immunity, you are compelled to testify or go to jail for up to 18 months.

Is the Department of Justice pursuing a case against Donald Trump?
glennlab comments on Oct 9, 2021:
Normally the DOJ makes no notice of an investigation until an indictment has been handed down.
glennlab replies on Oct 10, 2021:
@racocn8 Virtually none of the pre indictment activity by DOJ is public and most is in fact secret. Only in civil cases and congressional investigations do facts come out in public. All of the information that the select committee uncovers can be handed over to prosecutors, even that which is a state secret. If he is found to have committed sedition, it will be very public. It took 2 years to get Nixon, have a little patience, but contact both your senators and your congress member and let them know where you stand, even if they are of the other party. The more people they hear from, the more likely they are to pressure the people than can take action.

@racocn8 The US AG for the Southern Dist of New York, we know is investigating the Trump organization as well as the Trump family, What we do not know is if the US AG for DC is also investigating him or any of the other juridictions that may have jurisdiction in any of his possible illegal activities are investigating him. The only clue would be if we knew who they were calling for their grand jury testimony.

The only assets that he can shield are the 40 acres of his homestead and $25,000 0f personal property. There is a good chance that he will try to circumvent the seizure of his property and end up in a civil contempt case

Under Texas law if he has not paid the judgement in 90 days, they can seek civil forfeiture anytime in the next ten years. That is the plaintive s can have the constable go out and seize his assets including bank accounts. Moving money or assets out of state can lead to contempt charges.

I had a part time job washing dishes in 1974, it paid $14/hr, so 40 years later and it is only $17, it seems like that is a bit low. One thing that the shut down showed was that there were better jobs than the service industry that paid better. The only labor shortage right now is for lower paying jobs,
