For those actively looking for a companion/more where did you find your success?:
HippieChick58 comments on Apr 17, 2018:
I don't look at work, there are few in my age range, and most of those are married. I recently dropped off of all dating sites. I don't regard this as a dating site. So IF I find a date it will be completely random. I'm not holding my breath.

HippieChick58 comments on Apr 17, 2018:
I miss Spooky, who was there when my kids grew up. Then Millie who took them to adulthood. Nikko my cat from childhood. He was a tough old tom in a family with 6 kids. Then Cocoa, a Siamese that "followed" my brother home from work one night. She was the first cat that I really bonded with. My sister used to dress her in baby clothes.
I’m in the process of hiring a contractor to replace the wood trim around the windows on my house.
HippieChick58 comments on Apr 16, 2018:
My last contractor, OK only contractor, was my son in law. I did not pay him the total up front, nor would I pay that much to anyone I wasn't related to. I'd give him maybe 50% to start and the rest when the job is done, especially as it "will take 5 days". If you pay him up front you might never see him again. Give him motivation to come back and get the job finished. And final payment only after you have checked the work out and it is acceptable and they have cleaned up after themselves.

One of our intake questions was "is it a spider or snake bite?" and I said NOPE, never going to Okla if snake and spider bites are so common.

HippieChick58 comments on Apr 15, 2018:
I used to stand in a hot shower til the hot ran out. Then we got a tankless water heater, it was like heaven. Then I divorced, and left that house. Now, several years later I try to keep showers as fast as possible. I'm 60 and my skin dries out so quickly. I feel like I need a bath in lotion. Sigh, getting older sucks, but not getting older is not a good option.

How many of you older people listen to current pop music, or is it only "noise" to you?
HippieChick58 comments on Apr 15, 2018:
I listen to current music as well as almost everything else (not rap). I even listen to country from time to time but there is way too much mention of god, so not often. Usually I find a radio station that is acceptable and listen until they keep repeating a commercial I can't stand. Then I search for another radio station. And in November I change to any station that does not play xmas music frequently, as long as it isn't rap.

When a cherished relationship comes to an end, how do you deal with the profound pain that results?
HippieChick58 comments on Apr 15, 2018:
The end of a relationship is like a death. Except the other person isn't six feet under, he or she is still out there and can swing back and cause you fresh pain. But the process is the same, you grieve. You cry, you get angry, you're sad, you're miserable, and through it all you remember to breathe, until such time and breathing becomes automatic again, and like the tide the pain and grieving recedes. And like the tide then it will all come back washing over you again and you'll be back in the abyss again. And repeat. And you'll eventually be able to move away from the shore and the tides will be harder to reach you. When I divorced my ex I was pretty indifferent to him at that time, I had done most of my grieving before the split. We have children so I still have to see him several times a year. We're amicable. And he usually says something that makes my mouth drop open and I'm reminded what a maroon he is and I'm thankful I went through with the divorce. However, I had a long term relationship post divorce, it ended horribly, my heart was broken. It took some time to get over that, and it helped we had no connections for us to have to keep in touch. Gradually I got all reminders of him out of my life and only sometimes does it still hurt.
Just did a pet visiting job with 19 cats!! All Persians.
HippieChick58 comments on Apr 15, 2018:
Wow, that is a lotta furbabies. Where I live the city would be biting your butt, there is a 3 pet limit in the city limits except in special circumstances (breeders, pet foster families) Are the persians well taken care of. I have enough trouble just keeping up with the litter box for two kitties, add brushing and I'd be overwhelmed.
Anyone else feel guilty if they disturb their pet?
HippieChick58 comments on Apr 14, 2018:
What a sweet baby! How can you disturb him. I used to do that with my previous cat. I'd be crocheting, she'd be warm on my lap, and at the end of the row I'd pick her up, turn the afghan around, cuddle with her and get her settled back down, and repeat. We could do that for hours.

I started my "grown up" work life at 18, joining the Army. Not a good fit. Then I got married, got out of the Army and followed my ex around. I was a Stay At Home Mom (and logistics organizer). After raising my kids I went to school and got an AA degree in Health Information Management and entered the job market at menopause as the economy was tanking. It's been a wild ride.

What, me worry?
HippieChick58 comments on Apr 12, 2018:
For me it isn't quite that simple. It isn't always easy to control my thoughts, they seem to develop a life of their own, especially when the light are out. When I was in a situation of insecurities (financial/job/housing/etc) then the thoughts were very out of control. There is somewhat less insecurity now, but still don't necessarily have a peaceful mind. I have noticed when I use an herbal supplement that I will still have the thoughts, but they don't seem to linger as long and fewer upsetting thoughts hang around and more amusing or benign thoughts pop in for a few moments. You're lucky if you can turn it off.

And plastic surgeons would go out of business all over the place. Many magazines would have a large income drop. How many women's magazines feed on women's insecurities. It is crazy!
