HippieChick58 comments on Feb 25, 2018:
I drink white or rose wines on occasion. Beer doesn't like me. I don't like red wines. I don't drink daily or even weekly. And when I do drink at home alone it is usually to help me sleep. When I am out I may have a glass of wine if I'm not driving, but never on a first date. Well, usually not. Can alcohol increase life spans, I've read studies that it helps. But it hasn't so convinced me that I'm willing to add more alcohol to my life.

HippieChick58 comments on Feb 25, 2018:
My biggest regret is not getting a degree earlier in life. I have an Associate's Degree in Health Information Management now. I wish I had gone into nursing when I was younger, but my dad discouraged that, in fact discouraged higher education which is why I joined the military. That piece of paper is proof that you stuck it out.

As I age, instances where thoughts of what death is are occurring more often.
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 24, 2018:
My mom died at 45. So once I passed 45 I felt like I had no guide into uncharted territory. Apparently this is common with motherless daughters. So now I'm 60. I fully realize that life is short and we all could go in a blink. I also work in a health related field, I know how fragile life is. One of my close cousins died at 59. Two or three other cousins have passed on. Death is part of life, no one gets out alive. When it is over, it is over. No heaven or hell, That part that makes us who we are is gone, but on the atomic level our energy is still out there. Those part will be rearranged into something else, but it isn't part of us any longer.

HippieChick58 comments on Feb 24, 2018:
I am honest, or I tell it as I see it. I always own up to my errors. I will not deliberately hurt someone, but if you ask me what I think..... I will try to be kind but truthful. I am not going to beat someone over the head with my beliefs or lack thereof. I fall back to T.H.I.N.K. Is it True, Helpful, Inspiring, Necessary or Kind. And I think had I been alive 80 years ago I'd have been working for the resistance.
Maturity is the realization you can say "NO" without apology, and "YES" without guilt !
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 24, 2018:

HippieChick58 comments on Feb 24, 2018:
Would you like to start to knit, or crochet, or sew? Would you like to make some lip balm, or soap. Soap is fun, you get to play with lye. Do you want to make a quilt? I promise if I get you hooked on quilting you will not thank me, but you also will love it. I can spend hours in fabric stores and planning. And then cutting, and sewing and pressing, and cutting and sewing and pressing again. And sewing and pressing, and sewing and pressing again.
This says it all.

Is it just me or is there some amazing women on this site?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 24, 2018:
My answer to the men pointing out there are amazing men here as well, and yes, I totally agree. What I do want to tell you is Women of a certain age are usually overlooked, diminished, and disregarded and frequently that is done by males. It is a fact we are in a white male dominated society. I've been told many times before that I need to hide my light under a barrel, stop being so smart or I'd scare away the boys/men The first time I remember hearing that was 1973, I was 15. Also what is beyond incredible (from my point of view) is that the women here are kind and supportive of other women. This is truly a community where women are building each other up. Guys, you don't even begin to know how unusual that is. And from the bottom of my heart I will tell you it is such a welcoming, caring, comforting, supportive community like none I have ever experienced. This is like Nirvana for me, or possibly Nerdvanna.

In what ways do people sabotage their own happiness?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 23, 2018:
Impostor syndrome (also known as impostor phenomenon, fraud syndrome or the impostor experience) is a concept describing individuals who are marked by an inability to internalize their accomplishments and a persistent fear of being exposed as a "fraud". And often times will set themselves up for failure. I've often wondered if I am dealing with that at work.

Does or has anyone really felt they fit in?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 23, 2018:
I agree, there is no IN to fit in. Life is not one size fits all or even most. I've always always always been a bit off kilter and I learned to like it. I've always tended to be introverted, i grew up poor but I didn't realize how poor we were. What does a kid know, we always had food and clothes, just not much of the extras. I couldn't wait to get out of my small town, which is why I joined the Army after HS. Talk about going into a male dominated field. I almost always was larger than average. Plus being smart and a smart ass. I'd usually have a book with me and the things I liked to do were pretty solitary. Sewing is not a hobby to share. Somewhere along the line I figured out I liked being me and screw anyone who can't handle that. I tried to fit in sometimes, and just decided it is way too much effort. Take me as I am or leave me alone.

How important is it to people to have political compatibility?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 22, 2018:
If someone is radical or evangelical about their faith I'm not going to include them in my life. If they are more lukewarm I'd at least get to know them. I would not date someone whose political ideology is terribly different than my own. If they voted for Drumpf and don't regret it, I would question their morals. If they are politically apathetic and can deal with my zeal it might be OK. However, i can see where they would not fit in my world well. They'd have more in common with my ex, and I just can't see that as a good thing.
A friend told me today that I am vibrant. I wonder, what does that mean?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 22, 2018:
tonight if someone told me I was vibrant I'd probably cry and wonder what they heck they're smoking. And then ask for some. But on a normal day, yeah I have my moments and I'd just smile bigger and say thanks. Vibrant is not a matter of youth. I think we get more vibrant as we age. We get wiser, deeper, and so much more interesting. Honey, we have oodles of experience and we KNOW who we are. We have earned it. Thanks, my vibrant is coming back, but I'd still like to share what it is they're smoking.

HippieChick58 comments on Feb 22, 2018:
Actually, no. I did some upgrades in my house, and I try to keep things in good shape. I got a new phone in November, and yes I bitched about it for a couple of months. I got a new laptop because the old one was having some issues. The dishwasher just got a new lower rack because it was rusting out. I will replace the top rack one day. The machine itself is still working. 2ish years ago the AC went out and the water heater was showing signs of trouble, so they were all replaced, and I'm still paying for it. I went with an on demand water heater. The car is 11 years old and I plan to drive it til the kids take my keys away. The fridge, stove, and microwave are original with the house, almost 16 years old. I have stuff that is older than my kids, I possibly still have stuff from when I was a kid. So, mixed bag.

HippieChick58 comments on Feb 22, 2018:
My life is STILL a work in progress. I am simplifying but it takes time. One of my goals is to finish projects before I buy supplies for the next project. I am slowly getting rid of my excess. The kids are getting some of my things as I can sneak them over. I have a two go out before one comes in policy on shoes and clothing. I try to mend/repair before replacing. My goal is to be able to significantly downsize when I am ready to retire. 2388 days but who's counting.

HippieChick58 comments on Feb 22, 2018:
He isn't being silly, he is being unrealistic and dangerous. I will be the first to tell you I LOVE teachers, I have many teacher friends. I couldn't wait to send my kids out the door to school! However, as much as I love my teacher friends I would NOT want to see them with a firearm. That is a huge, huge, huge responsibility on top of all their other responsibilities. And hell, they aren't paid well now. Do we really want firearms around a thousand or so hormonal teenagers, Can anyone else see the potential problems with this? You don't want to give a firearm to someone who is not positive they could shoot to kill with it. Or who would waffle and end up getting the gun taken away and use on them. According to Mother Jones Myth Keeping a gun at home makes you safer. Fact-check: Owning a gun has been linked to higher risks of homicide, suicide, and accidental death by gun. • For every time a gun is used in self-defense in the home, there are 7 assaults or murders, 11 suicide attempts, and 4 accidents involving guns in or around a home. • 43 percent of homes with guns and kids have at least one unlocked firearm. • In one experiment, one third of 8-to-12-year-old boys who found a handgun pulled the trigger. So Der Donald is being totally hugely irresponsible to suggest teachers be armed. When I thought he couldn't dig any deeper, he outdoes himself again.

I suggested mutual masturbation and he freaked. He was a vanilla type of guy. Being too rough. There is rough and then there is too rough, one is fun the other is not. HippieChick58 comments on Feb 20, 2018:
I am in Nebraska because my kids settled here. I almost moved in the first few years post divorce, but my reason for moving went all to hell. My youngest never really left Omaha, my middle daughter came back because we were here. And then the oldest who had never moved to Omaha with us, decided she needed to be close to family. So all my kids are here, one grandbaby and one on the way. I hate the weather, I hate the politics. If money was no object and all the kids and their families could move with me I'd move back to the Seattle area, or maybe Vancouver, BC.

I did not know Buchanan was the worst, but I hadn't really paid attention. I've known since the primary that if Drumpf ever made it he would be a disaster. I hate it when I'm right like that. So, Mr Buchanan can rest more easily in his grave, he is not longer the disgrace to the American presidency.

January 13, 2021 My newest and smallest grandchild. She arrived 5 weeks early and is now 2.5 weeks old and is less than 7 pounds. I've never held such a small baby before. She is quite perfect and very amazing. I love being a Grammy.
